AMPANG:
Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli says he has been informed that his house will be raided by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) following a report linking him to a government agreement with UK-based semiconductor company ARM Holdings.

Rafizi, who has been critical of the government, however said he was unfazed by such “intimidation tactics”.

“I am a veteran in being arrested and locked up. Such tactics were employed by the previous regime and they never worked.

“So I told my wife to clean up the house a bit in view of the raid that will take place soon,” he quipped at a press conference here.

Last night, Rafizi laughed off an MACC report filed against him over the ARM Holdings agreement, saying the anti-graft agency was free to probe him.

“Apparently, ARM bribed me. They can dig all they want. I didn’t even get lunch or souvenirs (from ARM), let alone kickbacks. I’m still as poor as before. I don’t have millions in shares,” he wrote on X.

Three NGOs earlier filed a report alleging that a former minister had abused his power involving a government contract worth nearly RM1.1 billion awarded to a foreign firm.

They said the report also involved a former officer who had served with the company.

Malaysia committed US$225 million (RM930.52 million) to a four-year partnership with ARM, a semiconductor and software design firm, to lower the barriers for Malaysian companies seeking access to its intellectual property and technology.

The deal includes developing “Made by Malaysia” AI chips by leveraging ARM’s technology.

In November 2022, MACC raided Invoke Solutions Sdn Bhd, the data firm founded by Rafizi, after an NGO lodged a report against him over his assets declaration.

Rafizi was previously sentenced to jail over two charges of possessing a page of the 1MDB audit report and revealing the contents of the report in a press conference at the Parliament building.
